A face mask is not a daily-routine step the way a cleanser or moisturiser is — it is an occasional, once-or-twice-a-week intensive, which changes the real buying question from "which active should I run every day" to "which format actually fits an occasional slot in my routine". This ranking orders every face mask we track on Amazon UK by customer rating, weighted against how many people actually rated it, so a product loved by a handful of early reviewers cannot outrank one thousands of people rated consistently well. We have not tested these masks ourselves; the order reflects Amazon UK customer data rather than a panel comparison. Format is the first fork in the road: sheet masks for a quick, mess-free hydration hit, clay masks for drawing out oil and congestion, and sleeping masks left on overnight for slower repair. The price range here runs from £7.04 to £35.29 across brands spanning Korean skincare (Beauty of Joseon), pharmacy staples (Garnier, Simple, Neutrogena) and dermatology-led ranges (CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Eucerin).
Ranked from 23 face masks listed on Amazon UK. We do not physically test products — see “How we picked these” below.
We start from every face masks listed on Amazon UK, then rank by a score that weights customer rating against how many people rated it — a 5.0 average from three reviewers cannot outrank a 4.6 average from three thousand, because a handful of ratings tells you very little on its own. The top 12 by that score make this list. We do not accept payment for placement or ranking, and we do not physically test products ourselves: everything above is drawn from listed Amazon UK product data and customer review data, refreshed periodically.

Sheet masks suit a quick hydration top-up with minimal mess and nothing to rinse off; clay masks suit oily or congested skin needing a genuine detox step; sleeping masks suit skin that needs slower, deeper repair overnight. Picking the wrong format for the job is the most common reason a highly-rated mask disappoints.
Face masks are formulated for intensive, occasional use rather than daily wear, and using one more often than the label suggests is a common cause of irritation in reviews. A mask rated highly for weekly use is not necessarily rated on how it performs used every day, because almost nobody reviews it that way.
Clay left on until it fully dries can pull moisture from the skin along with the oil it is meant to draw out. Reviews mentioning tightness or flaking after a clay mask are usually describing this timing mistake rather than a fault with the formula — removing it while still slightly damp avoids it.
A sheet cut for an average face can gap around the nose or chin on other face shapes, wasting serum and reducing contact time. Star ratings rarely capture fit specifically, so reviews mentioning the sheet's shape or size are worth reading even on a well-rated pack.
Even the best-reviewed mask in this list is an occasional boost layered on top of consistent cleansing, moisturising and sun protection, not a substitute for any of them. Buying a highly-rated mask to compensate for skipping the daily basics is a mismatch between what the product is designed to do and what is being asked of it.
