What to look for
Matte trades comfort for staying power
Matte formulas grip pigment to the lips more effectively, which is why they typically outlast satin or sheer finishes through eating and drinking. The trade-off is a drier feel, and on chapped or textured lips a matte lipstick will visibly catch on dry patches that a satin formula would smooth over.
Transfer resistance is not the same as long-wear
A lipstick can wear well in colour intensity while still transferring heavily onto glasses, masks or a collar in the first hour. Reviews mentioning transfer specifically, rather than just "lasts all day", are the more useful signal if that is the problem you are trying to solve.
Shade names do not reliably predict the actual colour
